MEDIA RELEASE
FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SAFER ROADS IN BRADDON
Senator Anne Urquhart today announced that Braddon residents will have a safer trip home thanks to $1,737,500 in funding from the Albanese Government to improve four known crash sites under the 2025–26 Black Spot Program.
The Black Spot Program funds road safety upgrades at intersections such as traffic lights, safety barriers, roundabout installations and pedestrian crossings, with locations where crashes have occurred, or are at risk of occurring, being prioritised.
The local projects receiving funding are:

These projects will make an important contribution towards reducing risks, injuries and deaths on local roads, and build on previous investments in the local road network.
The projects were recommended by the Black Spot Consultative Panel in Tasmania. This panel is comprised of local stakeholders who are best placed to ensure nominations of the highest priority and importance are recommended for approval.
The Albanese Government has substantially increased Black Spot Program funding, which is progressively rising from $110 million to $150 million per year. This is part of the Government’s response to the worsening road toll which includes doubling Roads to Recovery funding from $500 million to $1 billion a year and delivering a nationally harmonised set of high-quality and timely data to inform road safety decision making.

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Anthony Chisholm:
“We’ve locked in significant increases to both the Black Spot Funding Program and Roads to Recovery Program because we’re committed to supporting local and state governments to make our local roads safer.”
“Every death on our roads is a tragedy that could have been avoided. Funding the delivery of these upgrades means more money to prioritise safety on our local roads and also less pressure on rate payers.
“The Black Spot Program is driven by communities, for communities. I encourage anyone who knows of a Black Spot near them to consider nominating that site for investigation.”
Quotes attributable to Senator Anne Urquhart:
“Safety on our roads is a high priority for me. This funding will help preventable accidents, injuries and deaths on our roads.
I am particularly pleased that a project nominated by a local community has been funded in Bakers Beach. The Federal Government invites community nominations for Black Spot funding because often it’s local road users who know where the best investments can be made.
I look forward to seeing these important projects progress.”
